So here it is, whiteofeye.com version 1.0! I have plenty of upgrades and tweaks I want to do, but what I have up now will serve just fine as a starting point. I’ll integrate the improvements as I go.

The purpose of the site is to showcase my video/animation pieces, so my focus in the upcoming weeks will be actually producing those pieces.. website stuff will be taking a back seat.

That being said, isn’t that header cool? It took me a few days to put that together.. I’m pretty happy with it. I think I’m going to make an animini (a 220×165 Flash animation featured in the side bar) with the artwork. I was kind of sad that I had to cover up the mountains and trees with the WOE logo text so that’ll give you a chance to see those better.

Other than the header, the site came together relatively easily. The rest of the page design was pretty basic and marking that up for HTML was easy enough. Integrating into Wordpress was pretty smooth. It’s certainly a more straightforward process than integrating a site into Joomla! CMS, which I’ve done a few times before. Of course, I’ve kept things pretty basic so that helped.. we’ll see what I think of Wordpress when I want to start doing fancier things with the site.

I’m hosting this site with Dreamhost and I have to give them props for their one-click installs. Seriously, all I had to do was say ‘I want to install Wordpress on my site,’ then input just a few options, and BAM! installed and running! Totally easy. I had a trickier time getting an identical Wordpress installation running on my Mac Pro webserver.. but mostly because I had to do a MySQL install. It wasn’t too painful, though, and now I’ve got a development environment that I can use to test website changes before I put them on the live site.

So yeah, enjoy the site and post some comments to let me know what you think!
