Best of the 48 Hour Film Project and Other News

August 27th, 2009

As I mentioned last post, there will be showing of the best of the 48 Hour Film Project at the Hollywood Theater this Monday at 7:30pm. If I remember correctly from last year, it sold out, so you should get there early to make sure you get a seat. I look forward to seeing what the teams came up with!

Also I want to give a hearty word of congrats to team Junk in the Box (mostly the same crew from the Free Box)  for their 4th place finish in the Portland edition of the Film Race tour. Apparently it was a shorter version of the 48 hour project–these guys only had 24 hours to do their film. You’ll recognize actors Drew and Jeremy from my last two movies. Check out all of the finalists on the Film Racing web site.

Bumbershoot/One Reel Film Fest

Bumbershoot is coming up over this Labor Day weekend in Seattle. They host the One Reel Film Festival, which is one of the biggest film festivals in the nation. They’ll be playing short films (many of them local) pretty much non-stop over the course of the three day festival. I’ll be there Monday to check out the scene. My friends from Alaska Robotics will also be there selling T-shirts and prints of their digital comics, so be sure to stop by their booth!

Ninkasi Film Competition

For any filmmakers who might be reading this, check out the Ninkasi Northwest Filmmaker Search. They are looking for submissions of 60 seconds or less and will screen films simultaneously in Eugene, Portland and Seattle on October 29th. Submissions are due September 10. Prizes include free film equipment rental, Ninkasi kegerators and the grand prize winner will get to create a beer-themed advertisement for the company during a weekend stay at @Large Films studio.

Also: Documentaries and Rubinator!

I don’t know much about the Northwest Documentary Arts group, but they are holding a showing of documentaries (called Homemade DocFest) made by their students at the Mission Theater tomorrow night.. sounds cool! Doors 7:30pm, starts at 8pm, $7.
