White of Eye

Just Hibernating

February 4th, 2010

White of Eye has been hibernating but is just taking a rest.. when White of Eye wakes up, White of Eye will be very hungry and will probably go eat a fish or something. And then make an awesome movie. Perhaps about eating a fish.

One small bit of news: portlandfilm.org is featuring some of my movies on its site this week. Futureman and the List are already up. Portlandfilm.org is connected to the same people who do Suck My Flick, a really cool local movie showing that happens last Tuesday of every month. I showed Futureman there last time and it got a good response.. Dusty recommended bringing by my animation, so expect to see a couple of singing crabs there next time around.

Rejection Letter

October 18th, 2009

I got an email from Thomas Phillipson at the NW Film Center a few days ago that begins: “It is with heavy heart and a wince that I inform you that your entry was not selected for the 36th Northwest Film & Video Festival…”

*sigh* oh well, maybe next year. This year’s NW Film Fest is November 6-14, btw.

The email did mention a cool event going on Nov 7th: Filmmaker Bar Camp. It’s a day of workshops aimed at and presented by local filmmakers. I’ll probably stop by and see if I can learn a few things from my filmmaking comrades.

Bagdad Short Film Fest

September 20th, 2009

Just heard about the NW Filmmakers Night II going on at the Bagdad Tuesday, Jan 19th. Short film submissions will be accepted Oct 1-Dec 7. Currently no instructions on the McMenamins site on how to submit films.

Also, if you want to get naked for a Flaming Lips video, check this out.

“The Corners” Fundraiser at Kelly’s next Wednesday

September 10th, 2009

Drew from the Free Box sent me an invite that sounds like fun: a fundraiser for an upcoming feature film called “The Corners” by Keith Apland. It’ll be next Wednesday Sept 16th 7:30pm at Kelly’s Olympian. For a $5 suggested donation, the entertainment includes:

  • 2 new unreleased Free Box episodes
  • a showing of “Winona” (directed by Apland)
  • music from Stella Grace, DJ Buster Douglas and a special acapella performance from the Free Box crew

So head out and support a local indie filmmaker! It’s not like you have anything better going on Wednesday night.

Best of the 48 Hour Film Project and Other News

August 27th, 2009

As I mentioned last post, there will be showing of the best of the 48 Hour Film Project at the Hollywood Theater this Monday at 7:30pm. If I remember correctly from last year, it sold out, so you should get there early to make sure you get a seat. I look forward to seeing what the teams came up with!

Also I want to give a hearty word of congrats to team Junk in the Box (mostly the same crew from the Free Box)  for their 4th place finish in the Portland edition of the Film Race tour. Apparently it was a shorter version of the 48 hour project–these guys only had 24 hours to do their film. You’ll recognize actors Drew and Jeremy from my last two movies. Check out all of the finalists on the Film Racing web site.

Bumbershoot/One Reel Film Fest

Bumbershoot is coming up over this Labor Day weekend in Seattle. They host the One Reel Film Festival, which is one of the biggest film festivals in the nation. They’ll be playing short films (many of them local) pretty much non-stop over the course of the three day festival. I’ll be there Monday to check out the scene. My friends from Alaska Robotics will also be there selling T-shirts and prints of their digital comics, so be sure to stop by their booth!

Ninkasi Film Competition

For any filmmakers who might be reading this, check out the Ninkasi Northwest Filmmaker Search. They are looking for submissions of 60 seconds or less and will screen films simultaneously in Eugene, Portland and Seattle on October 29th. Submissions are due September 10. Prizes include free film equipment rental, Ninkasi kegerators and the grand prize winner will get to create a beer-themed advertisement for the company during a weekend stay at @Large Films studio.

Also: Documentaries and Rubinator!

I don’t know much about the Northwest Documentary Arts group, but they are holding a showing of documentaries (called Homemade DocFest) made by their students at the Mission Theater tomorrow night.. sounds cool! Doors 7:30pm, starts at 8pm, $7.
